Endodontics

Why do I need root canal treatment?

Inside every natural tooth is a system of canals in which the vascular and nerve supply is located - the endodont. If this tissue becomes inflamed, for example due to a very deep caries, this usually causes very severe pain. In this case, root canal treatment can prevent the removal of the tooth.

What is done during root canal treatment?

During root canal treatment, inflamed or dead tissue is removed, the canal system is disinfected and then sealed tightly up to the tip of the root so that bacteria have no opportunity to retreat there.

What does modern endodontics mean?

Root canal treatment has developed considerably over the last decade, and various technical innovations are available to help us achieve successful treatment.

Root canal treatment or endodontics is best carried out with magnifying glasses or a surgical microscope. Here at the dentist in Bochum.

Can root canal treatment be performed without X-rays?

Unfortunately not in principle, but we use electrometric length measurement for root canal treatments. The length of the individual canals is measured precisely. In most cases, a separate X-ray can be dispensed with during treatment.

How are the root canals disinfected?

We disinfect the canals using an electrophysical-chemical method. The disinfectant is activated with ultrasound and rinsed towards the root tip. This ensures a better rinsing effect.

What is the root canal filling made of? How is it done?

Root filling is usually carried out with gutta-percha (a rubber-based gum). We are even able to perform the root filling thermoplastically. For this, the gutta-percha is heated to 200 C° and brought into a liquid form. As a result, the gutta-percha flows into all secondary canals and no cavities remain in the root canal for bacteria.

Working with the surgical microscope greatly increases the probability of successful root canal treatment. Here at the dentist in Bochum.

How can difficult cases be treated?

To ensure excellent treatment quality, we have a latest-generation surgical microscope from Zeiss at our disposal.

For very complex root canal treatments, we are able to create a 75µm accurate 3D X-ray image on site. This technique makes the treatment gentler, safer and more precise.

What does root canal treatment cost?

Root canal treatment under a surgical microscope is a private service that is not covered by health insurance. The price varies greatly and depends on the amount of work involved. We will be happy to advise you individually on how much it would cost to save your tooth in your case. You are also welcome to make use of our installment payment option.

Why is the quality of root canal treatment so important?

High-quality root canal treatment allows us to preserve (almost) every tooth. This means that there is no need to grind down healthy neighboring teeth for bridge restorations or place expensive implants.
