Removable dentures Dentures

Introduction

Removable dentures are fixed in the mouth using clasps, but also the oral mucosa itself. The dentures can therefore be removed independently by the patient and must also be cleaned outside the mouth. This work usually involves the replacement of several teeth, which means that several treatment appointments are required to ensure a perfect result. In this case, too, there are standard, similar and different restorations.

In the case of a completely edentulous jaw, the standard treatment corresponds to a full denture. If the patient wishes to stabilize the denture with implants, private costs are incurred, but the retention and bone resorption are significantly improved.

Immediate prostheses (immediate prostheses)

Immediate prostheses are usually temporary restorations to close gaps and maintain the situation in the oral cavity, as the teeth in the jaw move and tilt or lengthen slightly throughout life. In this case, an impression is sufficient for the laboratory to fabricate the prosthesis.

In addition to the insertion, the patient must present regularly for pressure point checks, as this type of restoration is not a permanent solution and can become embedded in the jaw.

Overdenture (cover denture)

One example of this is the overdenture, which replaces all the teeth of a jaw, but is not purely mucosa-supported, but is stabilized and guided by individual remaining teeth.

Telescopic prosthesis

Telescopic work is a special form of overdenture. This involves the fabrication of double crowns. The first crown covers the real tooth and the second crown is inserted into the denture. Both crowns fit together perfectly and thus provide a certain amount of friction and support, ensuring that the prosthesis sits firmly on the alveolar ridge. The fabrication requires the highest level of dental skill and good cooperation between the dentist and dental laboratory.

Gum replacement (gingival prostheses)

The gum substitute is a gum mask made of soft silicone that lies over the mucous membrane and thus significantly improves the esthetics. This material must be replaced after a certain period of time.
